A New INEE-RET Partnership Monitors the World’s Crises

Since 2002, RET has been deeply involved in the work of the International Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE). RET was among the early actors who pioneered INEE’s Minimum Standards for Education and is presently Co-Chair, with the World Bank, of its Steering Committee and of its Adolescent and Youth Task Team (with GIZ). Today, RET continues this strong collaboration through a joint project (INEE-RET) of global awareness: the Education in Emergencies Crisis Spotlight Series. http://www.ineesite.org/en/crisis-spotlights/eastern-chad

These series of webpages (one crisis per page) has just been launched and will be continually updated on the INEE website. They will highlight all types of ongoing crises where education is affected. The specific aim of this series is to provide up-to-date information on the impact of natural disasters and conflicts on education around the world in order to raise awareness and advocate for increased response. This series primarily highlights crises that are outside the mainstream media and where at least part of the population does not have access to quality and safe education. The target audiences are education in emergencies actors, donors as well as the general public.

The series will be about crises all around the world, however, those outside the mainstream media will be prioritised. Information will focus on the affect-ed populations, how the crisis negatively impacts their education, the education actors responding to the crisis as well as the unmet education needs and challenges. The first Education in Emergencies Crisis Spotlights will be about Central African Republic, Colombia, Syria, and Southern and Eastern Chad, among others.

These Crisis Spotlights will be accessible on the INEE website (http://www.ineesite.org/en/crisis-spotlights). All page contents will be fully linked to external sources, websites, reports, etc., with emphasis on providing sources where people can find more information about the crisis. Each page will also offer the possibility to leave comments (for INEE members only), so information and questions can be collected directly on the page. There will also be an option to propose a new crisis to crisisspotlights@ineesite.org. The EiE Crisis Spotlight team will review your submission prior to posting the in-formation on the INEE website.

At RET we are delighted to participate in this new tool and certainly hope that it will not only be a source of information, but also a place to exchange insights and inspire solutions.
